AI-generated profile photos coming soon to WhatsApp.

NEW YORK, May 25: WhatsApp is reportedly incorporating artificial intelligence-powered image generation tools into several of its features. Following the testing of AI-generated stickers, the messaging app is now experimenting with a feature that allows users to create AI-powered profile photos, according to the update tracking platform WABetaInfo.

The latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, available to select users on the Google Play Store, includes an option for generating profile pictures from text prompts. This new feature, found within the profile picture editing options, lets users "Describe an Image" using a text description. The AI model then generates a custom profile photo based on this description.

This initiative appears to be part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to enhance privacy on WhatsApp. Recently, the company introduced a feature that prevents users from taking screenshots of profile pictures. The use of AI-generated images as profile pictures aims to reduce the risk of misuse or non-consensual sharing of users' images.

The AI-generated profile photo feature is currently under development and may roll out in certain regions soon. Meanwhile, the AI-generated stickers feature, which allows users to create custom sharable stickers on WhatsApp, is yet to be introduced in India.

In related developments, WABetaInfo previously reported that WhatsApp is testing a feature to clear all unread chats in one go. A new "clear unread when the app opens" option within the app’s notification settings will allow users to reset their unread message count whenever they open the app. This feature was observed in another beta version but remains inactive at this time.

These updates reflect WhatsApp's continuous efforts to enhance user experience and privacy through innovative AI applications.
