'White Cane Procession' emphasizes disability rights and social inclusion

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: On Saturday, Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs, and Childhood Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah emphasized that participation in the "white cane procession" is integral to efforts supporting individuals with disabilities and enhancing their social roles. Speaking to KUNA during her attendance at the march organized by the Kuwait Blind Association in recognition of Global White Cane Safety Day, she noted that the white cane is an essential tool for the blind, enabling their independence and integration into society, as highlighted by reports from the World Health Organization.

Fayez Al-Azmi, Chairman of the Kuwait Blind Association, also addressed KUNA, stating that the association has received support from various parties and institutions throughout its 50-year history, aligned with directives from the country’s leadership. He highlighted the association's significant achievements, including the establishment of a center for youth under 18 dedicated to caring for the blind, a Quran publishing center using the Braille method, and the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Sports Facility.

Al-Azmi mentioned additional accomplishments such as the creation of an electronic library, the organization of conventions and seminars, and the provision of training courses and programs. He announced that in February, the association plans to host an Arab-level conference and a Gulf sports tournament.

Meanwhile, Mansour Al-Enezi, the association's secretary, noted that the organization places special emphasis on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Global White Cane Safety Day, observed on October 15, aims to promote the self-sufficiency and independence of individuals who are blind. (KUNA)
