WASHINGTON, Nov 9, (Agencies): In a heartbreaking incident, a woman lost her life eight days after being trampled by an elk on her property in Pine Lake, Hualapai Mountains, Mohave County, Arizona. Discovered by her husband around 6 pm on Oct 26, wildlife officials reported that the victim had sustained injuries consistent with an elk attack, with a bucket of corn found nearby.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department noted the presence of multiple elk tracks in the yard. The unidentified woman was swiftly taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, where she was placed in a medically induced coma due to extensive injuries. Tragically, she passed away on Nov 3. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the death as an accident, with no witnesses to the unfortunate incident.

This marks the first fatal elk attack in the state, as per the department's records, despite five reported elk attacks in the past five years. Following the Oct 27 elk attack, AGFD officers visited Pine Lake residents, cautioning them against feeding elks and posting warning signs in the area.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department issued a plea to the public, urging them to refrain from feeding wildlife, emphasizing the risks associated with disrupting their natural behavior. Feeding wildlife can lead to dependency on unnatural food sources, posing dangers not only to the individuals feeding them but also to neighbors and the animals themselves. The department emphasized the importance of keeping wildlife wild and urged the community to avoid feeding them.
