KUWAIT CITY, Jan 28: The Hankook Golf Tournament was organized last Friday 24th January at the Sahara Golf Club. An important fixture in Kuwait’s Golf Calendar, it has been held each year for the past nineteen years except pandemic years.
Though early morning there were apprehensions about intermittent rains, thankfully the sky cleared as the day proceeded, and by mid-morning, it was quite pleasant with bright sunshine and a mild, cool breeze, which ensured conducive conditions for a healthy game of golf.
The tee-off commenced at 8 am, and as usual, the game was played in the ‘Stableford’ format with ¾ Handicap Allowance. The players were from diverse backgrounds, covering not just Sahara Club members but other golf enthusiasts as well.
The star of the day was Yun Ho Lee, who came with an impressive shot to score a ‘Hole-in-One’. Not only that, he had the distinction of being overall third as well as winning the prize for Nearest to Pin. The first prize went to the upcoming local talent Fahad Al Zouman who scored a fabulous 38 points, closely followed by JingHoo Kim on 37 points.
Among other winners, the prize for Longest Drive went to Fred Carsten in the Men’s category and Mrs. Kwak in the Ladies. The prize for Nearest to Pin in the Ladies’ group was won by Mrs. Raji Lamba. Finally, Karthic Mani scored net 62 points to win the prestigious prize for Best Net.
Prize distribution was organized in the afternoon in the gracious presence of His Excellency Mr.Chong Suk Park, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, and Mr. Jeong Seung Ham, Managing Director of Hankook Tires, Middle East & Africa. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Kuldeep Lamba Managing Director of AlMailem Group profusely thanked Hankook for their unwavering support over the last so many years. He expressed his satisfaction at the enthusiastic participation from golfers and also complimented the Sahara Team for their professional administration of the tournament.
