KUWAIT CITY, November 16: In a step that aligns with its corporate sustainability strategy, Zain has installed a solar panel setup at the outdoor car park in its headquarters. The initiative promotes the use of clean energy to contribute to powering the company’s buildings and reducing its carbon emissions.
Through this step, Zain renews its commitment to investing in sustainable energy solutions aimed at meeting its strategic sustainability goals, which include decarbonizing its operations and transitioning towards net-zero emissions by 2050.
This new solar panel setup contributes to powering the company’s main buildings, marking an impactful step towards reducing reliance on conventional energy and accelerating the use of renewable energy.
The step also reduces Zain’s carbon dioxide emissions, highlighting the impact of this initiative on the company’s carbon footprint and furthering its environmental sustainability goals to tackle climate change.
In recent years, Zain has taken major strides to promote climate action and transition to a net-zero economy to mitigate climate risks. This step underscores Zain’s proactive approach to environmental responsibility, as part of its overarching strategy to embed sustainable practices across all its operations.
Zain continues to exert more efforts into reducing the environmental footprint of its operations, including preserving natural resources, reducing energy consumption, recycling e-waste, implementing green solutions for water and electricity management, monitoring the company’s overall effects on climate change, network optimization, and more.
Through its corporate sustainability and social responsibility strategy, Zain is committed to building climate change scenarios that are aligned with the Paris Agreement (2015) to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate physical and environmental risks. The company is well aware of the urgent need to tackle the climate crisis the world is facing today.
Last year, Zain scored A- through its participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a reflection of its success in meeting the standards and requirements of the project. Zain is also one of the few companies in the region’s markets to have a membership in the CDP.
The company also developed its first comprehensive Scope 3 inventory process aligned with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol guidelines for a more accurate and transparent evaluation of its value chain emissions. This allows it to not only disclose and report in a more concise manner but be able to identify areas in which it can reduce its GHG emissions.
Zain continues to explore opportunities to address climate change impacts under its sustainability strategy. The company views this as a core pillar, with three main focus areas: network and energy consumption, strategy and communication, and waste management and circular economy.
