‘Shouting at referee wastage of time’
KUWAIT CITY, April 14: The National Assembly Team emerged victorious in the friendly futsal match with the government on Wednesday at Al-Shuhoumi playground in Salwa with four goals to none. In a press conference after the match, Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim expressed his gratitude to Deputy Speaker MP Ahmad Al-Shuhoumi for his invitation to the match. He said sports is similar to politics to a large extent, pointing out that the performance of players in the pitch is more important than wasting time in shouting at the referee and agitating the audience. He asserted it is futile to shout at the referee; especially if the referee is wise and knows what to do, adding that whoever is righteous will eventually win.
In response to a question on the harmony between the executive and legislative authorities, Al-Ghanim stated that cooperation is possible if the majority respects the minority. Based on the Kuwaiti tradition, all parties are keen on reaching a common ground rather than engaging in disputes whenever the political crisis intensifies, he added. He hopes the Rawdan Futsal Tournament will resume next year as it was suspended for almost three years due to Covid- 19. The Assembly Team included MPs Ahmad Al-Shuhoumi, Ahmed Al-Hamad, Salman Al-Azmi, Abdullah Al-Turaiji, Nasser Al-Dousari, Mubarak Al-Ajmi and Al-Ghanim who headed the team.
The Government Team included His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid; Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs Abdulwahab Al-Rashid; Minister of Health Dr Khalid Al-Saeed; Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Nazaha Enhancement Jamal Al-Jalawi; Minister of Public Works, Renewable Energy, Electricity and Water Ali Al-Musa; former Minister of State for Housing Affairs Yasser Abul and former Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Abdullatif Al- Rawdan.
Meanwhile, MP Abdulkareem Al-Kandari submitted a bill on the establishment of a court to rule on parliamentary membership and elections. The bill stipulates that the decisions of the court are final and cannot be appealed. Every disqualified MP has the right to file a complaint to the court within three days of the issuance of the disqualification decision. The proposed court then issues a decision within 10 days maximum. The bill gives voters the right to appeal the issuance of a decree on the dissolution of the Assembly within 10 days from the issuance of the decree.
Voters can also appeal against the decree of the government to call for parliamentary elections. The court will rule on such appeals within 14 days. In case the court decides that the decrees are illegal, the government must withdraw such decrees and rectify the error. One tenth of the MPs have the right to review the decree on the parliamentary elections, while the government has no right to vote. The court will rule on appeals against results of the elections within one month. By Saeed Mahmoud Saleh Arab Times Staff
