KUWAIT CITY, Dec 13: The Court of Cassation has sentenced to death the murderer of Farah Akbar, thereby closing the curtain on one of the infamous and heinous murder cases in the country, reports Al-Qabas daily. Earlier, the Court of Appeals sentenced the accused to life imprisonment, but the highest court overturned this ruling and imposed the death penalty.

Case files indicate that the Court of First Instance ruled on the death sentence by hanging for the person who kidnapped and killed Akbar — a crime that shook the Kuwaiti society. The Court of Appeals later commuted the sentence to life imprisonment, but the Cassation Court annulled this verdict and then sentenced the accused to death. Meanwhile , a Jordanian woman who is awaiting deportation allegedly assaulted a female prison officer when the latter went to investigate what was happening inside the prison ward when someone reported that some prisoners were involved in scuffles, reports Al-Rai daily.

When the officer reached the spot and found that the Jordanian woman was the one who was responsible, she grabbed the woman but to her surprise she turned on the officer and assaulted her following which support force was requested and the woman was controlled. The Jordanian is also accused of writing vulgar graffiti on the walls of the prison and acting boisterous with other deportees. A security source told the daily the female officer, who holds the rank of first lieutenant has submitted a medical report showing injuries to her face.
