KUWAIT CITY, Feb 20: Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Fahd Al- Shuwea said a decision will soon be issued to prevent expatriates from owning more than one vehicle.He pointed out the General Traffic Department has recently discovered that some expatriates own between 60 and 70 vehicles. He added, it was also discovered five vehicles were registered in the name of a domestic worker.In some other cases, vehicles were found registered in the name of expatriates although they don’t own a driving licence. In other news Al-Shuwea stressed all major roads of Kuwait are monitored 24/7 surveillance with the help of surveillance cameras.He disclosed the GTD is using 268 fixed and mobile cameras in addition to 179 high technology and specifications cameras which have been installed at prime locations. He also disclosed the traffic police on a daily basis deal with between 190 and 200 traffic varied accidents.He pointed in 2017 the GTD recorded more than 70,000 traffic accidents as a result of which 428 people lost their lives and more than 10,000 were injured. He added 164 expatriates were deported for driving without licenses. He stressed, the ministry will not tolerate such serious violations.
