KUWAIT CITY, March 13: Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Abdullah Al-Mehanna affirmed that draft law has been completed and referred to the Fatwa and Legislation Department and Land Transport Authority to toughen penalties for traffic violations, while the mechanism of raising traffic tariffs is still under study.
He made the disclosure at the launch of GCC Traffic Week and added that expatriates are currently deported on two major violations; driving without license and providing private transport. He noted the ministry has since opened its doors to receive complaints from the general public, and the penalty of deportation is codified against any person proven to have committed any of the above-mentioned violations.
He explained that Traffic Department currently has inadequate number of staff due to the ongoing construction and expansion projects in the country and the decision to recruit the children of Kuwaiti women who are married to GCC nationals will help fill in the shortage.
The 32nd Gulf Traffic Week is an unequivocal sign of pan-GCC coordination, progress and prosperity, Al-Muhanna said. The ministry attaches much attention to the traffic issue due to its paramount significance to the entire society
