KUWAIT CITY, April 11: The new government has been formed in line with the verdict of the Constitutional Court and it is expected to take the constitutional oath before the 2020 Parliament soon. Commenting on this development, MP Saleh Ashour said he expects the dissolution of the 2020 Parliament after the oath taking of the new government; followed by a call for fresh legislative elections. He thinks this scenario will put everything back to square one. Former MP Nasser Al-Duwailah also believes that the 2020 Parliament will be dissolved, as the people have rejected it.

He said the parliamentary elections will most likely be held in May 2023 after some reshuffl ing at the Constitutional Court. Member of the 2022 Parliament Mubarak Al- Tasha said His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah must perform important duties in the coming period, foremost of which is sending a letter on dissolving the 2020 Parliament to the political leadership in order to foil any attempt to revive this legislature.

Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim has referred 15 employees for retirement. Although the average service period of these employees is roughly 30 years; the decision has been criticized because some of them are still in their early 50s — much younger than some consultants who were hired at an older age.

In another development, Undersecretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Group MP Obaid Al- Wasmi participated in the 2023 Global Parliamentary Forum co-organized by World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). In his statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Wasmi pointed out that the participation of Kuwait is not limited to the legislature as it covers all concerned institutions. He disclosed that as chairman of the parliamentary Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee; he is concerned about the banking and financial changes in an unstable world, as well as the need to evaluate the legislation that serve national interests. He said Kuwait cannot work alone, it needs to coordinate with countries which share common interests in order to adopt joint projects and deal with the changeable global financial reality in the interest of the nation. He noticed that countries usually coordinate their efforts to face the international financial changes and attempts of industrial countries to impose their agendas by organizing such forums. About 200 parliamentarians representing representing 100 countries participated in the forum; as well as the representatives of civil society organizations, World Bank and IMF officials, and chairpersons of regional banks.

Moreover, MP Ahmad Al-Hamad attended the online emergency meeting of the Palestine Permanent Committee at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). They discussed the recent Israeli attacks on the worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque. A number of speakers and delegations of Arab and Islamic parliaments attended the meeting in response to the invitation of Chairman of the 17th term of the OIC parliaments and Speaker of the Council of the Nation People’s National Assembly of Algeria Ibrahem Bughali. The participants affirmed the sanctity of Al- Aqsa Mosque and their support for the Palestinian resistance. They condemned the Israeli attacks; calling on the international organizations, including the Security Council and and Human Rights Council at the United Nations, to punish Israel and protect the Palestinian people.
