KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: The Ministry of Information, represented by the tourism sector, signed an agreement Sunday, with the Kuwait Association for Festivals, to establish ‘Discover Kuwait ‘an electronic platform project to display tourism, cultural and sports events and activities. Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for the Tourism Sector, Saud Al-Khalidi, said in a speech during the signing ceremony of the agreement that this platform will shed light on official and unofficial events in various fields, to be a guide for tourists from inside and outside Kuwait.

Al-Khalidi added that the platform abounds with many diverse tourism elements and is considered one of the promising signs for activating tourism activity by highlighting the media and promotional events. He stressed that Kuwait pays great attention to revitalizing tourism through many regional and local agreements, projects, activities and events capable of being attractive in various artistic, cultural, commercial, sports and other fields. He indicated that the tourism sector in the Ministry of Information, under the directives of the Minister of Information and Culture and the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, seeks to converge wills, harmonize policies, and integrate efforts between the state and the private sector to encourage local investment by establishing tourism projects, as it is an industry that works to develop more than 30 related economic sectors, which constitutes a great opportunity to provide job opportunities for national competencies.

For his part, Tariq Al-Obaid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwaiti Association for Festivals, said in a similar speech that the ‘Discover Kuwait’ platform, which is to be launched in conjunction with Kuwait’s celebration of its national holidays next February, seeks to stimulate domestic tourism and attract foreign ones by providing a platform that displays entertainment, cultural, heritage and sports activities and events throughout Kuwait.

Al-Obaid said that this project comes as a translation of the Kuwaiti government’s work and the decisions it took in revitalizing the economy, including the social, tourism, entertainment and community partnership aspects, pointing to the cooperation of many governmental, private and civil agencies in implementing and launching the platform project, including Kuwait Airways, commercial complexes, universities and others. For his part, the head of the Union of Kuwaiti Travel and Tourism Offices, Muhammad Al-Mutairi, affirmed that Kuwait enjoys the tourism elements and infrastructure that make it “par excellence a family tourist destination to a unique degree, as it enjoys adventures on its sands and also its cultural tourism represented by the distinctive cultural facilities, including the Islamic Antiquities House, Failaka Island, Kuwait National Museum and others.

Al-Mutairi pointed out that Kuwait is also characterized by shopping tourism, which brings together traditional markets, the most ancient international brands and the most modern commercial complexes in the region. He stressed that the ‘Discover Kuwait’ platform seeks to support Kuwait’s strategy by attracting international festivals that have development and tourism benefits, encouraging tourists from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as providing job opportunities for Kuwaiti youth, in addition to developing tourism infrastructure. It is noteworthy that the Kuwaiti Association for Festivals was established in April of last year and specializes in the field of festivals, tourism and entertainment, and seeks to be one of the specialized associations in this field at the Gulf and Arab levels.
