KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: Kuwait Municipality has disclosed the start of a campaign for evacuating rented basements in residential areas in accordance with the licenses granted to them, as the basements are intended to be car parking spaces for the residents of those buildings and real-estate properties, reports Al-Rai daily quoting an official from Kuwait Municipality. He explained that building owners will be obliged to reallocate the basements of their buildings as car parks by the force of the law. The official indicated that tenants have the right to resort to the judiciary or lodge a complaint in any of the branches of Kuwait Municipality against the owner of the property in case the basements are being rented out for any commercial activity or as a warehouse without the approval of Kuwait Municipality. He highlighted that Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engr. Ahmad Al-Manfouhi has informed all municipality branches to conduct field campaigns on violating buildings, provided that a preliminary warning to evacuate the basement is issued to owners, and then repeated checking of the building is done to ensure the implementation of the evacuation. He added that, in the event of non-compliance, evacuations will be carried out by the force of law with the cooperation of Ministry of Interior, especially since most of the leases of basements are contrary to the law because basements of residential buildings are primarily allocated for car parking.
