KUWAIT CITY, July 26: Within the framework of the Ministry of Interior’s keenness to stop fake social media accounts that insult, slander and defame citizens including leaders in the state’s governmental facilities, the Cybercrime Department managed to arrest the administrator of a famous fake account under the name “Dr…” which has about 200,000 followers.

He was referred to the prosecution for investigation based on cases filed by citizens, reports Al-Anba daily quoting security sources. They explained that the efforts of the Cybercrime Department resulted in the arrest of the Twitter user after dozens of complaints were received. He was accused of extortion, insults, slander, and violation of privacy by publishing the pictures of citizens with the intention of offending their dignity. Instructions were issued to arrest him, after several cases were filed.

Charges were made after evidence of each case was obtained. During investigations, it was discovered that he is a Kuwaiti citizen and works as a leader in a major company. The sources concluded by stressing that the Cybercrime Department will deal with anyone who misuses smartphones and insults people in a manner that contravenes the cybercrime laws
