KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: A group of 28 Ethiopians was arrested for running a bogus domestic workers office. Ministry of Interior’s Public Relations and Security Media Department explained in a press release that the General Department for Residency Affairs had received information from a known source about a group of Ethiopians running an illegal domestic workers office where they were sheltering runaway domestic workers and were providing them with work in other places. A team of officers was immediately formed for investigations. After confirming the information and taking necessary legal measures, the officers raided the office and arrested 28 Ethiopians. During interrogations, it was discovered that the suspects have been encouraging domestic workers to run away from their sponsors. They were then provided shelter in the office and offered work in other places. The officers checked the details of the workers and discovered that they were reported as absconding and were involved in other cases. The suspects were referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action.
Liquor seized: An Asian expatriate was arrested in Ahmadi area in possession of 65 bottles of locally manufactured liquor. According to security sources Ahmadi securitymen were patrolling Ahmadi area when they suspected a vehicle and stopped it. They checked the civil ID of the driver to discover he is an Asian expatriate. Sensing his nervousness, they checked his vehicle and found 65 bottles of locally manufactured liquor. When questioned, the suspect confessed that he was planning to sell the liquor to his clients. He was arrested and referred with the liquor bottles to the concerned authorities for further investigations. Meanwhile, two Asian women and an Asian man were arrested for violating the residency law. An absconding report was filed against the male suspect. They were referred to the police station of the area where necessary action was taken against them.
Man held with drugs: A Kuwaiti citizen was arrested in Qurain area in possession of drugs. According to security sources, Mubarak Al-Kabeer securitymen were patrolling Qurain area at night when they suspected a vehicle with an occupant that was parked by the road. When the motorist noticed the patrol vehicle, he tried to flee but securitymen stopped him and checked his civil ID to discover he is a Kuwaiti. They checked his vehicle and found drugs. He was arrested and referred with the drugs to the Drugs Control General Department for investigations. Meanwhile, two Kuwaiti citizens were arrested on King Fahad Expressway in possession of drugs. They were referred with the drugs to the Drugs Control General Department for necessary legal action.
Bag of fake dollars: Securitymen at the Kuwaiti International Airport found a bag containing counterfeit dollar notes worth $200,000, reports Al-Shahed daily. The bag was in the parking lot of the airport and surveillance camera recordings are currently being viewed to identify the person who dumped the bag. Meanwhile, Al-Anba daily has reported that a citizen called the Operations Unit in the Interior Ministry saying they found the bag and it might contain explosives. Explosive experts rushed to the location and inspected the bag, leading to the discovery of the forged dollar notes.
