KUWAIT CITY, June 12: A team of officers from the General Criminal Security Department, headed by Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General Abdul Hameed Al-Awadi, arrested a drug trafficking gang.

Acting on a tip-off, the team raided the apartment of a Kuwaiti woman who was arrested along with a Bedoun. The officers found one gram of shabu and a huge quantity of narcotic pills in their possession. During interrogation, the two suspects admitted to consuming and trafficking in drugs.

They told the investigators that they got the drugs from another Kuwaiti woman and her housemaid — a Filipina. The team later arrested the Kuwaiti woman and the Filipina housemaid in the house of the former, leading to the discovery of two kilograms of hashish, 200 grams of heroin, 50 grams of marijuana, two small bags of shabu, 20 Larika pills, a huge quantity of other narcotic pills and 25 bottles of imported alcohol.

They also found a big quantity of hormonal medicines, protein tablets and injections, and steroids worth about KD 200,000. These substances were referred to the ministries of Health, Commerce and Industry which affirmed the woman violated the law as some of the products were expired and not fit for human consumption. The housemaid disclosed that her sponsor possesses all these narcotic substances, admitting that she helps her sell the drugs.

Officers sacked: Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid has issued a decision to end the services of two officers -- one of them a senior officer working for an unidentified department and the other is working at the Central Prison, reports Al-Rai daily.

The senior officer has been sacked for his alleged homosexual activity involving his relative and the other officer for smuggling cell phones to an inmate who is believed to be his relative. The decision to terminate the services was taken after the minister received information about the senior officer following a complaint surprisingly filed by the relative who reportedly got fed up of the elder citizen’s behavior.

The minister then asked his Assistant Undersecretary to form a committee comprising two high-ranking officers who discovered the senior officer was in fact involved in the immoral activity with the relative. The committee found indecent messages on the cell phone of the relative and money transfers in thousands of dinars in the ‘victim’s’ account.

The same officer is also accused of committing financial irregularities by covering-up an employee at the ministry who was receiving his monthly paycheck without showing up for work for long periods. The other officer has been fired for taking advantage of his position to commit the crime. He is the one responsible for maintaining security of the prison and ensuring no forbidden items pass through the prison gate. He was reportedly involved in smuggling cell phones to a prisoner who belongs to the ‘Popular Block Movement’. According to sources the prisoner is sharing the cell with a well-known politician
