KUWAIT CITY, July 30: The presence of ‘Chicago’ gangs holding white weapons in Hassawi is not a joke nor an exaggeration, or a scene from a ‘hidden camera’ program. Believe it or not, the perpetrators attacked the Kuwaiti Municipality inspectors recently, reports Al-Rai daily. This incident occurred when members of the Emergency Team from the Municipality branch in Farwaniya Governorate raided an open area occupied by a large group of street vendors threatened members of the team with knives, cleavers and sharp objects as they took to their heels to avoid being arrested by police, leaving their goods behind. Knowledgeable sources expressed surprise that the team launched the campaign without police backup, indicating the continuous absence of security forces in such areas is one of the factors that encourages lawbreakers to attack government employees, such as the Municipality teams. Sources pointed out the security forces are supposed to support the Municipality teams in carrying out their tasks, rather than wait for such an incident to take place before taking action.
