KUWAIT CITY, March 8: The environment police plan to activate the law and fine KD 100 any person caught spitting on the streets, reports Al-Shahed daily. A reliable source said the environment police will soon launch intensive campaigns also to prevent people throwing cigarette butts or waste from moving vehicles or otherwise. However, the daily did not what punishment such violations of the cleanliness law will carry.

Housemaids arrestedFour Asian women were arrested for working as housemaids in many houses on monthly or daily wages. According to security sources, when Ahmadi securitymen received information about the phenomenon of housemaids working in different houses on daily or monthly wages, a team was formed to conduct investigations in this regard. After confirming the information, four Asian women were arrested. Their details were checked to discover their sponsors had reported them as absconding. They were referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action against them.

Child killed, 14 hurt in Al-Oyoun blazeAn eight-year old child died and 14 individuals including three firefighters, five children, four Kuwaiti citizens and two Ethiopian housemaids sustained injuries in a huge fire that engulfed a house in Al-Oyoun area. According to sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about the house on fire, firefighters rushed to the location and evacuated 18 men and women. They discovered that an eight-year old child died in the fire and 14 individuals sustained injuries. The corpse of the deceased was referred to Forensics Department while the injured victims were referred to Jahra Hospital for treatment. Sources revealed that 15 ambulances were summoned to the location to transfer the injured to Jahra Hospital. Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire. A number of neighbors including youths had assisted in the rescue mission.
