KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: Kuwait Food Bank on Monday launched a new charitable project, in cooperation with Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation, to supply free-of-charge cold potable water to workers on site. The fresh initiative is one of the biggest advanced projects in the charitable sector in the region, since it provides clean water in cooled containers for workers at their workplaces, in addition to people on roads and at mosques, hospitals and vital places, the charity’s Deputy Chairman Meshal Al-Ansari said to KUNA. Al-Ansari added that this project is a big step in charitable and humanitarian work, given the modern methods used by the Bank to make it a success and benefit as many people as possible.

He praised the Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation’s support for charitable, voluntary activities and efforts carried out by the bank to serve the Kuwaiti society. Elsewhere, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) distributed on Monday 4,870 schoolbags to children in Yemen. KRCS Director General Abdulrahman Al-Oun said in a statement to KUNA that the distribution of the schoolbags included seven governorates, Hadramout, Abyan, Aden, Shabwah, Taiz, Sanaa and Marib. He added that this came within the framework of the society’s interest to ensure the educational process in Yemen and support the parents buying school supplies.

He affirmed the KRCS endeavor to continue supporting the education sector in Yemen in all its fields through the humanitarian work it undertakes, such as building schools and educational centers and many others. Al-Oun praised the role of everyone who participated or contributed in any way towards the charity’s projects. Last month, the Kuwait-based Global Charity Association for Development (Tanmeia) inaugurated Basmat Al-Amal (Smile of Hope) village for displaced Yemeni families in the Al Hudaydah Governorate. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Undersecretary of the Al-Hudaydah Governorate Waleed Al-Qademi expressed gratitude to Kuwaiti leadership and people for their generous financing of the development and humanitarian projects in Yemen. For his part, Tanmeia’s Director General and Deputy Board Chairman Naser Al-Ajmi voiced delight for the completion and opening of the village and thanked donors and philanthropists who donated for the humanitarian project.

Tanmeia focuses on sustainable projects which serve people, he said, adding these humanitarian efforts are part of Kuwait’s policy of aiding people in distress in any part of the world. Head of the Aden-based Altwasul For Human Development, which supervised the execution of the project, Raid Ibrahim said that the village comprises 60 housing units, two clinics, a medical lab, a pharmacy, a bakery, a mosque, a school and a water well. In other news, the Kuwait-based Humanitarian Relief Society has distributed 100 tillers for farmers affected by war in the Al-Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Undersecretary of Al-Hudaydah Governorate Waleed Al-Qademi expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait for the generous financing of humanitarian projects in the war-plagued Arab country. Head of the Aden-based Altwasul for Human Development Raid Ibrahim said each tiller has a 10-horse power, as farmers will be trained to use them under the supervision of local authorities. The contribution is part of the (Kuwait by Your side) aid campaign, going strong for the seventh consecutive year in Yemen. , (KUNA)
