KUWAIT CITY, July 01: Kuwaiti political factions have strongly condemned the repeated acts of disrespect towards the Holy Qur'an in Sweden, criticizing the Swedish government's permission for such actions under the guise of respecting freedom of belief and human rights. They view these acts as hate crimes fueled by racism and ignorance.

In a joint statement, six political factions emphasized the need for Western governments to respect Islam and Muslims worldwide and avoid provoking them. They expressed concern that these reprehensible crimes sometimes go unnoticed or are even protected by Western governments.

The statement also called upon the Swedish Parliament to demonstrate its credibility by enacting legislation that criminalizes the insult of religious rituals and sanctities, as it claims to uphold the values of freedom and tolerance, reports Al Rai. Regarding Arab and Islamic governments, they were urged to take decisive and firm stances in protecting the sanctities of the Muslim nation, defending its dignity, and supporting its sacred texts.

At the domestic level, the political factions called on the government to reconsider the investment promotion and protection agreement signed with Sweden as a response to the Swedish government's permission for such acts. They also urged the Federation of Consumer Cooperative Societies to coordinate a boycott of Swedish goods and products, while requesting the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to ban their import.

The political factions issuing the statement include: "The Democratic Platform - The National Islamic Coalition - The Islamic Constitutional Movement - The Salafist Islamic Gathering - The National Pact Gathering - The Justice and Peace Gathering."
