‘Move contradicts Municipality, Cabinet decision’

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 12: The Municipal Council (MC) approved the proposal of Council Member Dr Ali bin Sayer to change the use of land at Abu Halifa Park to residential and transfer it from the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) for distribution to housing grant applicants during its meeting presided over by Osama Al-Otaibi and Abdullah Al-Mahri recently, reports Al-Qabas daily. This contradicts the decision that the Kuwait Municipality’s executive body and the Council of Ministers issued earlier not to transfer parks to other activities.

The Municipal Council also approved the following:
■ Proposal of member Ahmad Hadian to allow the construction of a fourth fl oor for plots measuring less than 375 square meters,
■ Proposal of member Abdul Salam Al Randi to oblige the Municipality to use modern technology for its work mechanisms and reduce the number cleaners in new contracts,
■ Transfer landfill sites from Jahra Governorate to the border areas,
■ Proposal of member Mishaal Al-Hamadan to allocate beaches for swimming.

Earlier, the Municipal Council approved in its main session on Wednesday, headed by Osama Al-Otaibi, a request to allow an increase in the construction percentage for the fourth fl oor in private housing in homes with an area of less than 375 square meters. The council also approved the request of the Kuwaiti Public Transport Company to exploit a commercial space within the bus station located in the Jabriya Area, Block 4. The Council also approved the request of the Ministry of Social Affairs to allocate a site for family supplies next to the branch of the Rawda and Hawalli Cooperative Society. The Council approved the formation of a higher committee to define the architectural identity in Kuwait.

It also approved a request for transferring landfill sites in Jahra Governorate to the border areas and approving a request to oblige the municipality to adopt modern technology for mechanisms and reduce cleaners in new contracts. The Council also approved the request of the Tourism Enterprises Company to establish a marine fuel station within the Yacht Club in the Salmiya waterfront area, and also agreed to address the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources under the auspices of Sidra Dahi and to put up an indicative board with its historical name. The Council approved a request to unify the GIS data between the municipal administrations, the main municipality, and other government agencies. He also agreed to change the use of the land of Abu Halifa Park from the Public Authority for Agriculture to the Public Corporation for Housing Welfare. The Council approved the request of the Ministry of Finance to add a link bridge and a commercial space within the multi-story car park building in the Sixth Commercial District on Fahd Al-Salem Street.
