KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: The activists have renewed their refusal to impose guardianship on societal values, affirming that obliging foreign school teachers to sign a pledge to adhere to societal and religious values, “is considered imposing guardianship on them and an inspection of intentions, and evidence of a loss of confidence in teachers,” by the Ministry of Education, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Activists told the daily, the circular issued by the Ministry of Education to foreign schools stipulates that “the workers should be made aware of the teachings of the Islamic religion, the customs and traditions of Kuwaiti society, and the commitment to public morals,” educational and administrative system. The activists stressed that throughout the extended periods, foreign education has been present in Kuwait and is trustworthy, and it has not been proven that it deviated from societal values and norms, and therefore a government education institute has no right to impose guardianship over values and morals, and to speak in the tongue of extremist currents.
Activists touched on what was included in the Education Bulletin, as the General Administration of Private Education called on foreign private schools in all their educational systems to adhere to the teachings of the Islamic religion, customs and traditions of Kuwaiti society, its public order and public morals, and directed to hold periodic enlightening meetings for all new employees to introduce them to the teachings of the Islamic religion, customs and traditions.
The activists emphasized that values in general do not need circulars and pamphlets, and public morals that no one deviates from, and educational edifices focus on values and inculcate moral and educational rules, and it is not right for the Ministry of Education to publish this bulletin, which implicitly indicates siding with extremist currents and enemies of freedoms, whose tutelage has recently spread in an unfortunate manner. The activists reaffirmed the respect for the teachers of the generations, whatever their nationalities and it is not valid to search for intentions, as they are entrusted with the generations, and foreign schools in Kuwait take into account our established values. The activists demand withdrawal of the MOE circular for foreign schools, developing education instead of paying attention to formalities and enhancing confi- dence in foreign schools and teachers of future generations. This is in addition to no to imposing guardianship, no inspection of teachers’ intentions and no siding with extremist currents.
