KUWAIT CITY, May 1: His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday issued a decree dissolving the National Assembly, citing respect for the Constitution and the Kuwaiti people’s will. His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal noted in the proclaimed decree that he took the move to safeguard Kuwait’s higher interests and its independence amid regional and international economic developments and for sake of attaining prosperity and progress for the citizens.

The decision has been taken, he indicated in the decree, because of the need to refer to the nation, the source of powers, so they (the Kuwaiti people) may decide to choose their representatives for administering State affairs and attaining the aspired objectives. He affirmed dissolution of the National Assembly on the basis of a presentation by the prime minister after the cabinet approval. The prime minister, ministers and other concerned party must implement this decree, effective as off the time of its issuance, he stated. It is to the published in the official Gazette.

The declaration by His Highness the Crown Prince came shortly after the cabinet blessed the parliament dissolution and referred the decree in this respect to His Highness the Crown Prince for endorsement. Earlier on Monday, the Cabinet held a meeting during which the ministers approved a decree dissolving the National Assembly and referred it to His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Reading a statement following the session, held at Bayan Palace under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Khaled Ali Mohammad Al-Fadhel said the council of ministers aprroved a decree to dissolve the National Assembly on the basis of the constitutional provision 107 and referred it to His Highness the Crown Prince.

The ministers were briefed about a letter addresses from Chairperson of the Arab Parliament Adel Asoumi with regard of granting His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the Arab Parliament medal (The Leader Medal) in appreciation for his services for his State and the Arab nation. The ministers discussed issues on the Arab and international arenas, namely conditions in Sudan and decided to dispatch relief and medical aid to the stricken sisterly nation, upon which, it assigned the foreign ministry, in coordination with the ministries of defense and health and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, to secure the needed aid supplies and send them to Sudan as soon as possible.

In related news, the State of Kuwait Ambassador to Egypt and the Permanent Representative at the Arab League Ghanem Al-Ghanem on Monday affirmed necessity of exerting collaborative efforts for ceasing the fighting immediately in Sudan. “The State of Kuwait has followed up with deep concern the recent developments in Sudan that led to spread of violence and strifes among various parties thus threatening Sudan’s stability and security,” said Ambassador Al-Ghanem during an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council, held at the level of permanent delegates, addressing the issue of Sudan. Al-Ghanem underscored necessity of holding national dialogue among the Sudanese parties with regional and international support to pave the way for holding credible elections. Military action will not achieve any progress for restoring Sudan’s stability, he stressed. He lauded the Arab states for rapid response to the developments in Sudan and keeping session of the delegates’ meeting open. (KUNA)
