KUWAIT CITY, Oct 30: Kuwait Catering Company has contacted the Ministry of Commerce and Industry about the decision to remove some items from the ration card after noticing that Kuwaiti citizens are not buying these items, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources from the ministry. Sources disclosed these items include different types of tea and dates that citizens are not buying because their prices are similar to those sold in cooperative societies.

Sources explained citizens do not usually buy these items from catering service establishments due to the abundant supply of such goods in cooperatives and parallel markets. Sources asserted the ration card is aimed at providing citizens with subsidized basic commodities, not as an outlet for the disposal of foodstuffs. In the same context, sources confirmed that Kuwait Supply Company has prepared a list of companies whose contracts have expired and will not be renewed for various reasons. Sources said some of these companies have already withdrawn from the market, while others offer limited products that the citizens do not patronize.
